A back-to-back launch was conducted by Merial Philippines, Inc. to introduce its two new innovative products for the Companion Animal Segment. Held at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel in Quezon City, the Manila Launch kicked off on the occasion of the Philippines’ Independence Day Celebration, June 12, 2013, with the date symbolically chosen to convey the promise the two products bring: “Freedom from pain with PREVICOX” and “Freedom from tick-borne diseases with CERTIFECT.” It was followed by a Regional Launch in Cebu held at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel on June 15, 2013.
PREVICOX (firocoxib) is a prescription-only, highly selective, coxib nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has outstanding efficacy, with potentially fewer side effects than other pain management alternatives. This safety profile also allows PREVICOX dosage to be based on optimum pain management rather than on a compromise between safety and efficacy that drives dosing in some competitive products. The product is indicated for control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery in dogs. It is presented in chewable tablet form that comes in two strengths, 57mg and 227mg, with real beef flavor and scored in the middle for easy dosing.
CERTIFECT on the other hand, was developed in response to the growing prevalence and increasing resiliency of ticks worldwide. With FRONTLINE PLUS as its development platform, CERTIFECT uses the synergistic effect of Amitraz with Fipronil to potentiate its efficacy on ticks. The product addresses the need for a tick product offering increased speed of kill and prevention of tick attachment. It prevents ticks from taking a blood meal while maintaining complete activity against fleas.
Attended by close to two hundred respected veterinarians from all over the Philippines, the highlight of the back-to-back launching was the technical lectures on Canine Pain Management and Prevention of Tick-borne Diseases by Dr. Woraporn Sukhumavasi. Dr. Sukhumavasi is a Lecturer from the Parasitology Unit of the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, with a PhD on Immunology of Infectious Diseases from Cornell University, USA.
Gracing the events were the top brass officers of Merial – Dr. Jun Romo, Country Manager of Merial Philippines, Inc., Mr. Mike Fisher, Regional Head of Marketing for Companion Animal (CA) Business in Asia, and the Head of CA Business for SEA and CWD, Dr. Florisa Viloria.
